Ego Ella May has unveiled her latest single ‘Don’t Take My Lover Away’.
This track is part of the British-Nigerian singer-songwriter and musician’s forthcoming second album ‘Good Intentions’, set for release on 20th March.
The single, produced alongside Alfa Mist, is a heartfelt tribute to her husband, reflecting on love and the fear of loss, she explains.
“This song is about my husband. I wrote it because I felt so happy and in love, and feared (irrationally) him being taken away from me! At the time, he was experiencing some health issues, and I remember thinking, ‘Don’t you dare go anywhere!!’ I wanted the good feelings to last forever, but also remembered that the meaning of life is to experience love and loss at times — ‘I know how it works,’ as I sing in the chorus,” explains Ego Ella May. “It almost felt like surrendering to life, and actually just embracing that I am really in love and grateful to experience this, and that I shouldn’t take it for granted! It means every day I remain thankful for him and what we have together, because tomorrow isn’t promised.”
To celebrate the album’s release, Ego Ella May will embark on a UK mini-tour, beginning in Manchester on 29th April. Additionally, she will perform intimate in-store acoustic sets at Rough Trade locations across the UK.
