Brògeal’s debut album doesn’t waste any time. From the opening moments, ‘Tuesday Paper Club’ lays out precisely what the Falkirk five-piece do best: fast, loud, deeply melodic songs that bring people together and have something to say while doing it.
The band have already built a reputation for being one of the most exciting live acts in the UK. This album captures that same energy, but doesn’t rely on it. There’s structure, purpose and intent in every track. Traditional folk instruments – such as accordion, banjo, bouzouki, mandolin, and penny whistle (yes, really) – sit confidently alongside punchy drums and indie grit. Songs are rowdy without losing shape. Melodies are big but never overblown.
The title-track and ‘Draw The Line’ lead with a swagger that’s easy to get behind, but the detail is in the writing. ‘Go Home Tae Yer Bed’ shifts into something slower and more personal (“This song deals with grief, and that’s all I’ll say,” comments frontman Aidan Callaghan). ‘Vicar Street Days’ reflects on growing up, finding your people, and moving through it all. It’s an album that knows when to shout and when to take a breath.
There’s a strong political current running throughout, expertly balanced: big hooks, bigger heart, and a clear point of view. No posturing. No filler. Just a band who know exactly what they want this to be.
‘Tuesday Paper Club’ is loud, fun and unshakeably sure of itself. It’s a confident debut: every track hits, every chorus lands. The message is clear, and the delivery is brilliant. This is what it sounds like when a band get it right the first time.
