Anna Calvi has made her return with a new cover of Bonnie Prince Billy’s ‘I See A Darkness’, featuring Perfume Genius.
This duet explores the depth of non-romantic intimacy. “So many songs are about romantic love,” Calvi states. “But I wanted to highlight the romance of the chosen family, the depth of connection that isn’t tethered to heteronormative ideals. It’s such a powerful song about the yearning for intimacy.”
Calvi adds, “I love inhabiting other people’s songs. When I sing someone else’s words, I feel like I’m getting closer to myself somehow, because the songs I choose express something I can’t articulate.”
This release marks Calvi’s first new music since her work on the score for the final seasons of BBC’s ‘Peaky Blinders’, which concluded in 2022, with her scores released in early 2024.
Calvi recently participated in a David Lynch tribute concert at the Southbank Centre and has announced a sold-out show at London’s EartH Theatre, where she will perform rare tracks from her discography with special guests.
