This Is Lorelei, the project of Nate Amos, have announced ‘Holo Boy’, an album featuring re-recorded songs from Amos’ extensive back catalogue, set to be released via Double Double Whammy on 12th December.
Following the success of ‘Box for Buddy, Box for Star’, Amos has reimagined the album format for ‘Holo Boy’, which is neither a traditional new album nor a retrospective compilation. The album features ten re-recorded songs from nine different releases spanning from 2014 to 2021, including the new single ‘Name the Band’.
Amos describes his approach to selecting tracks: “I tried to look at the catalog as little as possible and more just think to myself, ‘What are songs from the past that I feel like are good songs, demonstrate growth, and are significant to me, in terms of embodying a certain period of time?’”
The re-recordings were completed in May 2025, with Amos aiming to provide new listeners with an entry point into his past work while revisiting songs of personal significance. “The songs on ‘Box for Buddy, Box for Star’ are really similar, and they’re produced in such a way that the differences are accentuated, whereas with ‘Holo Boy’, the songs are really different, but they’re produced in such a way that the commonalities are accentuated,” Amos explains.
‘Holo Boy’ challenges conventional understandings of time and serves as a prequel, sister album, or shadow self to ‘Box for Buddy, Box for Star’. The album title references the holodeck from Star Trek, reflecting Amos’ interest in concepts of reality and simulation.
The tracklisting for ‘Holo Boy’ reads:
‘I Can’t Fall’
‘But You Just Woke Me Up’
‘Dreams Away’
‘SF & GG’
‘My Friend 2’
‘Name the Band’
‘This is a Joke’
‘Mouth Man’
‘Money Right Now’
