Sam Smith is set to headline an eight-night residency titled ‘To Be Free: San Francisco’ at the historic Castro Theatre.
Opening on 10th February 2026, these performances will mark the venue’s reopening after extensive renovations. The announcement coincides with the release of Smith’s cover of Bill Withers’ ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’, accompanied by a video filmed in San Francisco’s Castro District.
The ‘To Be Free: San Francisco’ residency follows Smith’s ‘To Be Free: New York City’ run, beginning 8th October at Brooklyn’s Warsaw club.
“I LOVE San Francisco and The Castro especially has been so central to the Queer community here over the years,” Sam comments. “These shows will also celebrate the official reopening, so it’s truly an honour to become part of this iconic venue’s history.”
The Castro Theatre, originally constructed in 1922, has undergone a $40 million restoration to accommodate a wide range of performances, including the installation of the world’s largest digital organ.
