Laura-Mary Carter has released a new single, ‘Four Letter Words’, accompanied by a video shot in a farm shop in West Wales. The clip follows Carter waiting for someone who never arrives, transforming the empty space into a makeshift stage.
Best known as one half of Blood Red Shoes, Carter’s latest track precedes her debut solo album, ‘Bye Bye Jackie’, due 26th September. It follows first offering ‘June Gloom’, which featured a guitar contribution from Lee Kiernan of IDLES. The new material arrives alongside a run of headline dates and select UK shows in support of Natalie Bergman.
“‘Don’t be late’ sets the stage, though in truth I am rarely on time myself,” Carter explains. “What follows is a sharp-eyed tale of affection’s push and pull, where the four-letter word could be anything, you decide what it is, with a knowing eye-roll at the chaos of caring for someone who drives you round the bend. It’s irony wrapped in melody, humour folded into heartbreak, all carried by a beat that refuses to stand still.”
