Slow Crush – Thirst

Label: Pure Noise Records
Released: 29th August 2025

Slow Crush’s third album, ‘Thirst’, is a record that lives in contrasts: weighty yet feather-light, shimmering yet crushing. Across its ten tracks, the Belgian shoegazers lean further into their trademark haze of reverb and distortion, but with a grit that makes each swell feel sharper, more urgent.

The title-track opens proceedings like a horizon slowly blooming into view: vast, atmospheric and pulsing with what the band call an “unquenchable desire for what’s next”. ‘Covet’ follows, a cocoon of sound where Isa Holliday’s dreamlike vocals float above a dense, enveloping low end. ‘Cherry’ keeps the momentum, while ‘Leap’ slinks into deeper territory, its slower pace and shadowy guitar lines adding a touch of unease.

‘Hollow’ feels like a meditative turning point, its airy expanses suggesting renewal, before ‘Haven’ acts as a sheltering moment of calm. The album’s gentlest opening belongs to ‘While You Dream Vividly’, a slow-motion drift, while ‘Bloodmoon’ turns the dial towards darkness, reflecting on the hardships of living life with intent. The final pair, ‘Ógilt’ and ‘Hlýtt’, close the record in a blur of texture, melody and emotion.

Slow Crush are masters of balance. Lyrically, ‘Thirst’ is bound by themes of fragility and renewal; Holliday’s performances here are her most vulnerable yet, and that rawness seeps into every note. It’s music that invites total immersion.
