Caity Baser has announced her new EP ‘There, I Said It’, set for release on 22nd August via Capitol Records UK, alongside new single ‘Weight Of You (I’m Glad You Died)’.
The eight-track collection marks a departure from the BRIT Award nominee’s previous releases like ‘Friendly Sex’, ‘X&Y’, and UK Top 40 single ‘Pretty Boys’, exploring more personal themes.
The EP was recorded entirely with live instruments, drawing influence from artists including Etta James, Connie Francis, Julie London, Chet Baker, Nat ‘King’ Cole, and The Delphonics, creating a sound that incorporates elements of jazz, musical theatre, and Motown.
“I’m finally in a place where I feel ready to release this special collection of songs I’ve been working on,” Baser explains. “It’s hugely important to me and contains some difficult feelings – I feel really excited to explore a more vulnerable side of me and talk about things that are a part of who I am. This EP is all about the things I’ve never spoken about; the things I taught myself to be ashamed of.”
Speaking about her new single ‘Weight Of You (I’m Glad You Died)’, Baser shares: “When I was eight, I was sexually assaulted. I’ve never known how to explain how that felt, because I was so young and I was flung into all these super serious situations, like police interviews and going into court. It was just a really horrible experience, and for my whole life, I’ve been ashamed of it and never really known how to write it down or how to say it.”
The EP’s full tracklist includes ‘Watch That Girl (She’s Gonna Say It)’, ‘The Story of Her’, ‘Drank Me Dry’, ‘Weight of You (Glad You Died)’, ‘Hymn for Him (Interlude)’, ‘Good Man’, ‘As I Am’, and ‘Beautiful Girl’.
