CMAT has shared the title-track from her upcoming album ‘EURO-COUNTRY’, set for release on 29th August via AWAL Recordings.
The release follows her recent Pyramid Stage performance at Glastonbury Festival, with CMAT also confirmed as one of BBC Radio 6 Music’s upcoming Artists in Residence. She’s also a cover star for the July 2025 issue of Dork (hurray).
Speaking about the concept behind ‘EURO-COUNTRY’, CMAT says: “I have certain phrases that reverberate around my head over and over again – and EURO-COUNTRY was one of them. It’s the title of the album, and the name of the first song on the record. And it means three things to me: It’s the kind of country music I make; the fact that Ireland is a European country run by the euro; and that capitalism is one of the worst things to ever happen to us.”
The album, recorded in New York and co-produced by Oli Deakin and CMAT, follows 2023’s ‘Crazymad, For Me’. Her previous work has earned her several accolades, including a BRITs Best International Artist nomination and nominations for the Ivors, Mercury Prize, and Choice Music Prize.
“EURO-COUNTRY is, I think, the best thing I have ever made,” CMAT adds. “I felt halfway through recording it was the most important record I’ve made for myself… mainly because it was making me go crazy. I’m always going to make the work I want to make, because there is a little gremlin in my head that tells me if it’s shit. More than success, there’s a bigger gremlin that wants me to make music that’s really good. She’s brutal and has ruined my life at times, but she is the keeper of my life and she’s always right.”
