Black Honey are teasing their fourth studio album ‘Soak’, set for release on 15th August, with new single ‘Shallow’.
The Brighton band’s latest track tackles themes of social discourse and performative behaviour. “‘Shallow’ is about the brain rot, being a hypocrite and still participating in a social discourse despite feeling shy and uncomfortable,” explains frontwoman Izzy B. Phillips. “It’s a bit of a view from space and all whilst summing up the human experience into two-line consumables and clickbait.”
The new album follows their 2023 release ‘A Fistful of Peaches’ and marks a shift in creative direction, drawing inspiration from Stanley Kubrick’s visual style. Phillips describes the album’s concept: “Soak is me processing a decade of touring and creating music and art as an addict. It’s me picking at the layers of messy, romantic, confusing, woozy, beautiful and fucked up things. Who I thought I was, who I was supposed to be and who looks back at me now are all so different but I’m kind of here for it.”
The album features previously released singles ‘Psycho’, ‘Dead’, and ‘Insulin’.
