M(h)aol have released their second full-length album ‘Something Soft’ via Merge Records, alongside a new single ‘1-800-Call-Me-Back’.
The Irish post-punk trio, comprising Constance Keane, Jamie Hyland, and Sean Nolan, have marked the release with a new video for ‘1-800-Call-Me-Back’, filmed on their phones across different cities on 1st May.
“This track is about getting ghosted, which I personally think should be a criminal offence for anyone over the age of 25. The intro sound came from me and Sean watching the Euros and talking about football chants. I am not actually interested in football, but there’s something about international football where teams can’t buy people that I got super on board with that year. This is our football song,” says Keane.
‘Something Soft’ was recorded at Dublin’s Ailfionn Studio by Jamie Hyland, with Sarah Deegan of Pixie Cut Rhythm Orchestra contributing bass. The album follows their debut ‘Attachment Styles’ and ‘Gender Studies EP’.
The band are performing tonight at The George Tavern, London, with a free show at Rough Trade East scheduled for next week. They will embark on co-headline shows with Cola and Junk Drawer in Ireland, before supporting Black Country, New Road at Dublin’s Olympia later this year.
