Debby Friday has announced her new album ‘The Starrr Of The Queen Of Life’, set for release on 1st August via Sub Pop worldwide and Royal Mountain Records in Canada.
The Nigerian-Canadian artist has also shared new single ‘All I Wanna Do Is Party’, accompanied by a video co-directed with Kevan Funk featuring Friday performing alongside a troupe of dancers.
“The video is really about discipline and craft. It’s about the transformations that happen when you devote yourself to a process over time. The starrr is a metaphor for all these thoughts I have around fame, success, failure, love, power, god, death, life, everything. My starrr is in me, and your starrr is in you, and it’s just a matter of surrendering to it,” Friday explains.
The album, which follows her 2023 Polaris Prize-winning debut ‘GOOD LUCK’, was created alongside Australian producer Darcy Baylis in London, with additional production from Graham Walsh, Tayhana, and HiTech. “I want to be a starrr, I can’t hide that desire,” Friday says of the new record. “But what I don’t want is to live someone else’s dream or to follow a pre-set path.”
The eleven-track album includes previously released single ‘1/17’ and features a collaboration with HiTech on ‘In The Club’.
