Lorde has announced her first new song in four years, ‘What Was That’

Lorde has announced her first new music in four years with upcoming single ‘What Was That’.

The New Zealand artist revealed the news via social media, sharing artwork shot by photographer Talia Chetrit. The image shows Lorde wearing a red t-shirt with double braids and water dripping down her face.

“My new song What Was That. Out soon,” Lorde wrote alongside the announcement.

The track marks her first release since her 2021 album ‘Solar Power’. In 2024, she released a Talking Heads cover and featured on a remix of Charli xcx’s ‘Girl, so confusing’.

The announcement follows Lorde’s appearance at Coachella, where she joined Charli on stage to perform their collaborative remix. She also recently made her debut on TikTok, where she shared a preview of the upcoming single.
