Sports Team have released new single ‘Sensible’, taken from their upcoming third studio album ‘Boys These Days’, due 23rd May.
The track explores themes of modern life and societal expectations, with the band continuing to develop their signature blend of Britpop and art rock. The single arrives alongside a music video featuring frontman Alex Rice wandering through London Fields.
Rob Knaggs explains the meaning behind the track: “Sensible is a song about the myth of betterment. ‘Go to the gym. Get ripped! Get rich! Get ahead!’ I think being young now, it feels like you’re trapped in someone else’s nostalgia. Primed. Groomed. Glistening with youth and vigor. What for? Staving off the grim reaper with Haeckels face creams and expensive candles. Adopting the aesthetic of liberalism while running an air bnb empire, flying 10 times a year and working for Helsing AI.”
‘Boys These Days’ follows the band’s previous albums ‘Deep Down Happy’ and ‘Gulp!’, with the new record produced by Matias Tellez at his studio in Bergen, Norway. The album features hand-painted artwork by Rob Knaggs and follows recent singles ‘I’m In Love (Subaru)’ and ‘Condensation’.
