Y have shared new single ‘Ladies Who’, the third track to be revealed from their upcoming self-titled debut EP ‘Y’.
The London-based group, which features members associated with Fat White Family, Meatraffle and Pregoblin, was founded by Adam Brennan and Sophie Coppin. The pair developed their distinctive sound by combining their shared musical interests with contrasting approaches to composition, resulting in what they playfully term as “wonk rock,” “Gameboy thrash,” and “Egyptian wedding music.”
“‘Ladies Who’ approaches the topic of exploitation in the media under the joyful guise of a wonky pop song,” the band explain. “Although the song’s lyrics are the story of a female killer, the music presents an almost cabaret-like dictation of events, highlighting the fantastical and absurd exaggeration of true events in journalism in order to gain more traction. ‘Ladies who’ poses the question, ‘ladies who’- what?, what would make you listen?”
