The Driver Era have dropped their obsessive new single ‘I’d Rather Die’

The Driver Era have released new single ‘I’d Rather Die’, the final track to arrive ahead of their fourth studio album ‘Obsession’.

The alt-pop duo, consisting of brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch, have crafted a minimalist offering featuring layered vocals backed by drums and piano. The track opens with a jazz-influenced harmonic introduction before moving into its central melody.

“It’s the same kind of concept where we’re tackling the concept of obsession and habits and basically just saying, ‘I know these things are killing me but like I’m not quite ready to give them up so I’ll do it tomorrow’,” Ross explains. Rocky adds, “There’s a bit of that loop, there’s a bit of that same old story we’re referencing too where everyone has their own loop that they probably can climb out of by doing it today instead of tomorrow.”

‘Obsession’ follows their 2022 release ‘Summer Mixtape’ and will contain 11 tracks exploring themes of love, longing, and loss. The album emerged from a collection of songs the band began compiling last year. “We started to collect all these songs and more that we were really loving and named the folder ‘Obsession.’ It was the truth of the situation – we were literally obsessed making these songs and just spent hours and hours with lots of love poured into them,” the band share.
