Fontaines D.C. have cancelled their upcoming Latin American tour dates due to a herniated disc suffered by vocalist Grian Chatten.
The Irish band were set to perform across Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia, including appearances at several South American editions of Lollapalooza. The announcement came as the group were preparing for their show in Mexico City.
“I have been really excited to play these beautiful countries for years and it really hurts to be here in Mexico City and not be able to go onstage, but I have been advised today, that I require urgent medical attention,” Chatten wrote. “We are very grateful for all your support and, with all my heart, I am sorry that I can’t play for you.”
The cancellations follow the band’s recent tour of Australia and New Zealand. Their upcoming U.S. tour dates in April and May currently remain scheduled.
Fontaines D.C. released their latest album ‘Romance’ in 2024, followed by new single ‘It’s Amazing to Be Young’ in early 2025. Speaking about the track, bassist Conor Deegan said: “The feeling of hope a child can give is profound and moving, especially for young men like us. That sense of wanting to create a world for them to grow up in happily. It’s a feeling that fights against the cynicism that can often overtake us in the modern world. So we wanted to declare which side we were on — it really is amazing to be young.”
