Chappell Roan has addressed questions about her second album during a recent TikTok Live session.
The artist responded to fans asking about the follow-up to ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess’, stating: “New album? Great question. We’re so beyond… so beyond far away from that, I could not even tell you.”
During the same session, Roan also discussed her unreleased track ‘Subway’, which she first performed at Governors Ball in New York last year. When asked about its potential release, she said: “Can we expect ‘The Subway’ anytime soon? Guys, I just came out with a song an hour ago, let’s just take it slow for a moment.”
Roan’s latest single ‘The Giver’, released on 14th March, marks her first new music since ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ last year. The track, which she debuted during her Saturday Night Live appearance in November, showcases a shift towards country influences.
“Many people have asked if this means I’m making a country album??? My answer is.. right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun and ‘The Giver’ is my take on cuntry xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for y’all,” Roan explained.
In a recent conversation with Apple Music Country’s Kelleigh Bannen, Roan discussed her experiences with country music culture. “I’m about to say something so controversial, but do you know who has treated me the best and the worst? Country boys,” she shared. “They treated me the nicest and they’ve also treated me the worst because – this is in high school – and that’s what I grew up around. Those are the boys I grew up around and that’s how I learned to stand up for myself, because you’re not going to look at me and be like, ‘Shh, shh, shh.’”
