No Windows have announced their new EP ‘The Great Traitor’, set for release on 9th May. The Edinburgh duo have also shared new single ‘Return’.
The six-track EP follows their 2024 release ‘Point Nemo’ and marks their first material since signing to Fat Possum Records. The new collection was produced by Ali Chant, known for his work with Dry Cleaning, Sorry, and Yard Act, moving away from their previous bedroom recording setup to a full studio environment.
Multi-instrumentalist Morgan Morris and lyricist Verity Slangen have evolved their sound for the new EP, incorporating influences from 70s chamber pop and film score compositions. The release features six tracks, including ‘Brown Bear’, ‘Tricky’, ‘Sugarcoat’, ‘Old Chain Pier’, and ‘Easter Island’.
“When I wrote Point Nemo I was very much a teenager and very hormonal still. I think this EP is coming out of that a little bit,” Slangen explains. “For me, it’s a mediation between being a younger person to being someone in my 20s who’s figuring things out a bit more.”
Speaking about lead single ‘Return’, Slangen adds: “It feels quite angry. The way I sing it live, there’s a lot of emotion behind it. If I had actually written it [back then], it probably would have been a much sadder, mellower song.”
