Charli xcx has been announced as the recipient of The BRITs Songwriter of the Year award ahead of this year’s ceremony, adding to her five existing nominations for the 2025 event.
The artist leads this year’s nominations, receiving nods for Artist of the Year, Mastercard Album of the Year, Song of the Year with Mastercard, Dance Act and Pop Act. The Songwriter award, which recognises exceptional songwriting talent, is decided by a panel of expert judges, with previous winners including Ed Sheeran, Kid Harpoon, and RAYE.
Damian Christian, Managing Director and President of Promotions at Atlantic Records and Chair of the BRIT Committee for 2025, says: “Charli has had an undeniable year, taking her experimental brand of electronic and pop from underground raves to the heart of mainstream culture. Charli’s songwriting is distinctive, bold and relentlessly innovative, and, having been one of the UK’s leading songwriters for a number of years now, has taken her craft to new heights with her global phenomenon Brat.”
The recognition follows the release of Charli’s sixth studio album ‘BRAT’ in June, which reached Number 1 on the UK Official Album Chart in October. The album’s single ‘Guess featuring Billie Eilish’ also topped the UK Official Singles Chart.
In October, she released ‘Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat’, featuring collaborations with Julian Casablancas, Bon Iver, The 1975, Shygirl, Ariana Grande, and Caroline Polachek.
The BRIT Awards 2025 with Mastercard will take place on 1st March at The O2 arena in London, hosted by Jack Whitehall. The ceremony will feature performances from JADE, Lola Young, Myles Smith, Sabrina Carpenter, Sam Fender, Teddy Swims, and The Last Dinner Party.
