Green Day are working with Live Nation Productions on a new comedy film titled New Years Rev, with casting currently underway in Oklahoma.
The coming-of-age story follows three friends who embark on a cross-country journey after mistakenly believing they’re set to open for Green Day at a New Year’s show in Los Angeles. Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust are cast as the central trio, with Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gunn, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo also featuring.
Casting agency Freihofer have issued a call for extras aged 18-30 to play “attendees of a pop-up rock show at an outdoor location”, specifically seeking “punks, emo, hardcore, alternative and rocker young adults”. The outdoor filming is scheduled for 24th-27th February, with one day dedicated to a ‘rain and mud fight’ scene.
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong shares his perspective on the film’s themes, saying, “Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of. But you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known.”
Live Nation Productions’ Ryan Kroft adds, “With incredible guidance from Green Day, New Years Rev tells the story of young artists chasing a dream — long nights, endless miles, and the electrifying rush of the stage fuelling their journey. Brought to life by an incredible cast, it’s a tribute to the magic of live music.”
The film is being directed by Lee Kirk, with Green Day, Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino serving as producers for Live Nation Productions.
