Flora from Kansas has shared new single ‘Wait For You’, the latest track to be taken from her upcoming debut EP ‘Homesick’.
The 17-year-old artist recorded the EP entirely at home, utilising various rooms throughout the house, including bedrooms, the basement, and the living room piano. The collection was mixed by Ali Chant, known for his work with Aldous Harding and Soccer Mommy.
“‘Wait For You’ is a story about finding ‘the one’ – basically a love story for a future partner,” Flora explains. “Musically, it’s a lot more of a rock song compared to the other music I’ve released. Fun fact: I got to drive a vintage Camaro for the video shoot! Super fun…”
The EP features a collection of tracks exploring themes of teen anxiety, middle-child syndrome, and high-school romance, alongside a cover of Alvvays’ ‘Dreams Tonite’. Flora, who began writing music five years ago, developed her craft during lockdown. “My dad and I often took long walks to a nearby gas station, where we had conversations about how life was going. It was then that we started discussing the idea of creating music together just for the fun of it,” she says.
The family’s musical environment plays a significant role in her creative process. “My dad and my brother and I all have our own little recording studios in our rooms, so we kind of go around the house from workspace to workspace.”
‘Homesick’ is set for release on 14th March via Melodic.
