BLACKPINK star Lisa opens up about landing her role in The White Lotus

BLACKPINK’s Lisa has discussed her casting process for the third season of The White Lotus, which marks her acting debut.

The K-pop star explained to The Wrap that she pursued the role as part of a desire to “switch to a new chapter in my life”. “The White Lotus opportunity came in, and [I] was like, ‘Why not just give it a try?’,” Lisa said. “I’m a big fan of The White Lotus already – I have to try, even if I don’t get it.”

The musician’s involvement began when her name was suggested during Thailand casting by a co-producer and casting director. Executive producer Dave Bernad noted that both he and creator Mike White were unfamiliar with BLACKPINK at the time, stating: “We treated it like we treated every other casting.”

After submitting a video tape and receiving a callback, Lisa completed an in-person audition with Mike White. “I got a call that I got the role,” she said. “It was not easy.”

While Bernad admitted there were initial concerns about potential distractions due to Lisa’s status, these were quickly resolved. “She could not be more down to earth as a human … her approach to it was as professional and as dedicated as everyone else was,” he said.

Speaking about her experience on set, Lisa shared: “Acting is like a new world to me. There’s a lot of close-up shots [and] different angles and I have to do exactly the same. I was like, ‘This is insane,’ but I really had fun while shooting it.”

Lisa has also recently collaborated with Doja Cat and RAYE on the single ‘Born Again’, which features on her forthcoming debut solo album ‘Alter Ego’.
