Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard have performed a rendition of Sinéad O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ during the SNL50 live special, following their earlier collaboration at the SNL50 Homecoming Concert where they paid tribute to Queen.
The performance, introduced by Aubrey Plaza in her first public appearance of 2025, marked another significant moment in the evening’s celebrations. The song choice carried particular significance in SNL history, connecting to O’Connor’s memorable 1992 appearance on the show.
SNL creator Lorne Michaels reflected on O’Connor’s historic performance in ‘Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music’, stating, “Part of me just admired the bravery of what she’d done, and also the absolute sincerity of it.” He also addressed misconceptions about O’Connor being banned from the show, saying, “We’re way too crass and opportunistic. If something’s hot, we’re going to go for it and have it on.”
The evening’s celebrations also featured Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter performing ‘Homeward Bound’, alongside appearances from Eddie Murphy, Tracey Morgan, Pedro Pascal, and Bad Bunny.
