Self Esteem has shared another taster for upcoming album ‘A Complicated Woman’ with new song ’69’

Self Esteem has released a new single ’69’, marking the second track to be unveiled from her upcoming album ‘A Complicated Woman’.

The new track arrives alongside a video directed by Piers Dennis, with Rebecca Lucy Taylor explaining the inspiration behind the release. “I always wanted to write a song that lists sex positions and rates them,” she says. “A lot of my music is saying the things I struggle to say in real life. I like the idea of clearly communicating your needs in one quick, three-minute house song. It is also political – women still are expected to cater to others sexually; I can’t hear another discussion about ‘faking it’, it upsets me too much! There’s enough inequality in the male/female dynamic as it is. Our bodies go through so much more pain and suffering, please god let us get the pleasure where we can!”

The track features a guest appearance from drag queen Meatball, with Taylor adding: “I’d already written the song and then months later my all-time favourite drag queen Meatball said pretty much the same on her podcast Sloppy Seconds, and I knew it had to make the album!”

‘A Complicated Woman’ features collaborations with various artists including Nadine Shah, Moonchild Sanelly, and Sue Tompkins from Life Without Buildings, alongside actress Julie Hesmondhalgh. The album includes a choir composed of dozens of predominantly female voices, which Taylor describes as “a community of people. I want you to hear and feel the connection.”

Taylor will present the album in a theatrical format with a sold out run at London’s Duke Of York’s Theatre. The dates in full read:
