The Weeknd releases stark black and white video for new single ‘Cry For Me’

The Weeknd has unveiled a new black-and-white music video for ‘Cry For Me’, taken from his latest album ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’.

The visual sees Tesfaye appearing in a sparkling outfit with a hooded face, walking towards a woman in darkness. The footage alternates between scenes of the artist wandering through a city and shots of the woman crying dark liquid, accompanying the chorus “I hope you cry for me like I cry for you.”

‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’, which features 22 tracks including the Playboi Carti collaboration ‘Timeless’ and ‘São Paulo’ with Anitta, marks Tesfaye’s fifth album to reach number one on the Billboard 200.

Speaking to Variety in January, Tesfaye suggested ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ might be his final album under The Weeknd moniker. “It’s a headspace I’ve gotta get into that I just don’t have any more desire for,” he said. “You have a persona, but then you have the competition of it all. It becomes this rat race: more accolades, more success, more shows, more albums, more awards and more No. 1s. It never ends until you end it.”

However, he clarified his intention to continue making music, stating, “I don’t think I can stop doing that. But everything needs to feel like a challenge, and for me right now, the Weeknd, whatever that is, it’s been mastered. No one’s gonna do The Weeknd better than me, and I’m not gonna do it better than what it is right now.”
