Bon Iver have announced their first album in six years, ‘SABLE, fABLE’, set for release on 11th April via Jagjaguwar.
The new record, produced by Justin Vernon and Jim-E Stack, was primarily recorded at Vernon’s April Base studio in Wisconsin. The album’s conceptual beginning came on 22nd February 2022, during a snowstorm that left Vernon and Danielle Haim stranded at the studio, resulting in their collaboration on the track ‘If Only I Could Wait’.
The album follows last autumn’s three-song ‘SABLE’ EP, which forms the opening section of the full-length record. The project’s first single, ‘Everything Is Peaceful Love’, arrives on 14th February alongside a music video directed by John Wilson, known for HBO’s ‘How To with John Wilson’. It’ll get a first spin the night before as the Hottest Record in the World on BBC Radio 1.
‘SABLE, fABLE’ marks a departure from the dense, layered sound of previous Bon Iver records ‘i,i’ and ’22, A Million’. The twelve-track album also includes collaborations with Dijon, Flock of Dime.
Vernon will discuss the new album in a conversation with broadcaster Krista Tippett at Brooklyn’s On Air Fest on 21st February. The discussion will be broadcast live via KCRW’s internet radio and will later be available through On Being.
