Father John Misty has reacted to Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performance coinciding with the 10th anniversary of his album ‘I Love You, Honeybear’.
Tillman took to social media to comment on the timing, writing: “Had to do his super bowl performance today of all days nice.” The post came as he marked a decade since the release of his 2015 record, for which he has announced a remastered version arriving on 14th February.
The timing continues a pattern of parallel releases between the two artists. In November, Lamar’s surprise album ‘GNX’ arrived on the same day as Tillman’s ‘Mahashmashana’. Tillman responded at the time by sharing a track titled ‘God’s Trash’, accompanied by artwork that referenced Lamar’s recent releases. “I’m furiously scribbling my seeming response”, Tillman wrote on social media before sharing the track.
“It’s okay only other times it’s happened was 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2022,” Tillman noted when addressing the recurring coincidence of their releases.
