Between the distortion and the discourse, Chloe Slater has crafted something electrifying with ‘Love Me Please’. The Mancunian future icon’s latest EP grabs you by the collar and makes its case with both whip-smart intelligence and a good hard shake of pure, unbridled attitude.
Opener ‘Tiny Screens’ bursts out of the gates all snarling riffs and carefully calculated chaos, the sound of someone who’s thoroughly done with playing by anyone else’s rules, before ‘Sucker’ showcases Slater’s versatility, trading the darkness for a more playful brand of defiance. It’s bratty in the best possible way, with guitar work that would make Arctic Monkeys blush and a chorus that lodges itself in your brain like a welcome intruder. It packs in all the reckless abandon of bad decisions while keeping enough self-awareness to make it smart rather than simply celebratory.
‘We’re Not The Same’ arrives fully formed and fearless, a pointed critique wrapped in an irresistible package. Slater takes aim at privilege with precise fury, creating something that works equally well for dancing or demolishing societal expectations. The EP’s heart reveals itself on ‘Imposter’, though, where the armour cracks to show something more vulnerable underneath. Here, Slater proves her songwriting chops can handle nuance as deftly as they deliver knockout blows, building from doubt to defiance without missing a beat.
Across ‘Love Me Please’, Slater weaves personal narrative and social commentary into something urgent and essential. Her lyrics slice through modern life’s endless doomscroll with surgical precision. It’s a statement of future intent from an artist who understands that the personal is political and that sometimes the best way to make a point is to make it loud enough to shake the walls. ‘Love Me Please’ captures Slater in a full sprint towards the future, suggesting even greater heights ahead while standing tall as a remarkable achievement in its own right.
