Bat For Lashes has released a new EP of harp reimaginings from her sixth studio album ‘The Dream Of Delphi’, collaborating with harpist Lara Somogyi.
The EP features five tracks from Khan’s latest album reworked with Somogyi, alongside five instrumental versions. The collaboration came about after Khan witnessed Somogyi perform in London, leading to a duet at St John’s Church in Kingston for ‘The Dream Of Delphi’ launch show. The pair later recorded the EP at Somogyi’s home studio in Joshua Tree.
“It was really fun working with Lara on this collection of songs to recreate something so musically improvised and all over the place,” Khan says. “Lara brought her own beautiful versions of the piano chords to the studio, and when she played them I was so touched it made me cry to hear it. So pure and vulnerable.”
‘The Dream Of Delphi’ explores Khan’s journey into parenthood through the persona of the Motherwitch, examining themes of domestic life and existential wonder. The album was accompanied by a film, ‘The Dream of Delphi – A New Transmission’, produced with creative director Alexandra Green and directed by Freddie Leyden.
