Heartbreak has never sounded quite so forensic. On ‘the pain i feel’, cr1tter wields her emotional devastation like a scalpel, dissecting failed relationships, addiction and betrayal with the kind of precision usually reserved for crime scene investigators – if they worked exclusively in bedroom studios and weren’t afraid to send that ill-advised 4am text.
Seattle’s PJ Clark has crafted an EP that marries the confessional rawness of emo-rap with pristine alt-pop production. Opening track ‘treasure chest’ exemplifies this duality, Clark’s vocals dancing across glitch-heavy beats while she performs emotional archaeology on her past, each chorus landing with the weight of a revelation you can’t unthink.
The production throughout is a masterclass in controlled chaos. ‘understand u’ transforms personal catastrophe into collective catharsis, while ‘do u wanna die’ packages existential dread in a wrapper so sweet you’ll find yourself humming along before the darkness of the lyrics hits.
‘the pain i feel’ is like finding a perfectly formed pearl in a sea of tears. The best sad songs don’t just make you cry; they make you think about why you’re crying in the first place.
