Down the pop rabbit hole we go, as Emei’s latest EP ‘RABBITHOLE’ tumbles through the looking glass on a journey that sparkles and stumbles in equal measure, painting anxiety in prismatic hues while wrestling with the very nature of modern stardom.
The title-track sets the scene, borrowing Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland imagery to chart the spiral of self-doubt. ‘9 LIVES’ emerges as the collection’s crown jewel, its confessional core the kind of earworm that burrows deep as Emei transforms resilience into something that feels genuinely lived.
On ‘ALL THESE KIDS’, she takes aim at LA’s influencer industrial complex with the precision of someone who’s seen behind the curtain. Her vocals dance between sugar and spite, while the production maintains enough rough edges to make its point without losing its polish.
The EP occasionally trips over its own conceptual shoelaces, the Wonderland framework sometimes feeling more like a Pinterest mood board, but it marks Emei as an artist worth following down whatever warren she chooses next. Sometimes the most interesting journeys are the ones still finding their destination.
