Hex Girlfriend – No Golf Cart Parking EP

Label: sly-tone records
Released: 22nd November 2024

London’s Hex Girlfriend have arrived with a debut EP that plays like a fever dream at the world’s most intellectually stimulating warehouse party. With ‘No Golf Cart Parking’, Noah Yorke and James Knott have crafted an opening declaration that demolishes genre boundaries while constructing something thrillingly new from the rubble.

Early single ‘Graveyard on a Beach’ channels Cocteau Twins’ ethereal textures into a thoroughly modern meditation on memory and time. The production packs every available space with detail while somehow maintaining perfect clarity – a mathematical impossibility made musical reality. ‘Drugs, Oil & Guns’, meanwhile, transforms political commentary into a physical necessity, its distorted beats and electronic textures demanding movement.

Throughout the EP, Hex Girlfriend maintain a delicate balance between experimental impulses and pure pleasure principles. Their production aesthetic is challenging but rewarding, complex but never inaccessible. The band’s kitchen-sink approach occasionally sends ideas spilling over the edges, but there’s an infectious joy in watching them colour outside the lines with such conviction.
