Imogen and the Knife is going to release a new expanded EP, ‘Some Kind of Love, Extended Suite’

Imogen and the Knife has announced ‘Some Kind of Love, Extended Suite’.

An expanded version of her debut EP, it features new single ‘Used to Beauty’ and it due on 20th November via Vertex Music.

“This was a really special one to record,” Imogen says of the new single. “I brought it to my bandmates, Jack Banjo Courtney (trumpet) and Evan Abell (baritone sax) and their addition to the track is so thoughtful and delicate. We’ve been playing together for a long time so I’m glad to be able to celebrate them on a song already so close to my heart.”

Speaking about the extended EP, Imogen explains: “When making the EP, two additional songs floated around in my notebooks, in my voicenotes, in my shows – so to me they’re still very much in the psyche of Some Kind of Love. In September I took them to my bandmates, and they beautifully and thoughtfully dressed both songs with trumpet and baritone sax. The next day we recorded them as they were at Strongroom with the wonderful Alex Parish.”

“The extended suite also features a demo version of the song ‘Some Kind of Love’, caught in a quiet moment at my studio, recorded and produced by my partner Will Lister. It felt good to return to my basics on these tunes. To release them as they were written with not much overthinking, just trust. That’s kind of how they were written anyway, in some sort of trance at the piano.”

The project is described by Imogen as “A carefully woven patchwork of songs from different times and experiences, all unified by their exploration of love in some way or another”. The artist, who developed her sound between Newcastle and South-East London, has previously released singles ‘If It Won’t Talk of Rain’ and ‘Mother of God’.
