Boston Manor – Sundiver

Label: SharpTone Records
Released: 6th September 2024

Don’t be fooled by the title that this is going to be an optimistic, sun-tinged album. You’re in the wrong place for that. This is the basement where the sprinklers are spraying blood, like at the start of that Blade film. It sounds like it’s the missing tracks from the ‘Queen of the Damned’ soundtrack.

Hot and heavy and absolutely stunning, it’s a whole new territory for Boston Manor. “Everything is just getting worse,” Henry screams on ‘Sliding Doors’, which might be true of many things, but certainly not of his band. ‘Horses In A Dream’ is more vibe than a song, but coupled with ‘Dissolve’ and ‘What Is Taken, Will Never Be Lost’ and there is this 90s boyband and Justin Timberlake sound that really breaks up the onslaught of the other tracks.

Wrapped up with a feature from Heriot on the album’s closer, and it’s another album in which Boston Manor have defied expectations.
