Bodega have announced a deluxe edition of their 2024 album ‘Our Brand Could Be Yr Life’.
Titled ‘Brand On The Run’, it’s set for release on 1st November via Chrysalis Records, with the digital expanded version featuring seven additional tracks, including four previously unreleased songs and three limited edition B-sides.
The first single from the deluxe edition, ‘Adaptation of the Truth about Marie’, has been released alongside the announcement. Ben Hozie of the band explains: “‘Adaptation of the Truth About Marie’ is an adaptation of the 2011 novel ‘The Truth About Marie’ by the Belgium novelist Jean-Philippe Toussaint.
“As filmmakers get to adapt novels into movies, I thought it would be fun to adapt a book into a song. I took some liberties with the plot but the psychological thrust and dramatic situation are the same (a love triangle involving death). This song is paired with our A-side single ‘Tarkovski’ because that song was also written as a response to reading a book (Tarkovsky’s ‘Sculpting in Time’). The music video is a homage to one of my favourite pastimes: reading a good book in a warm tub.”
‘Brand On The Run’ includes ‘remakes’ of songs from Hozie and Nikki Belfiglio’s previous project, Bodega Bay (2013-2016). Hozie adds, “Like ‘Our Brand’, this collection explores the existential crisis that comes with a life devoted to underground rock music. To complement our dissection of underground rock mythos, we explore various genres such as Madchester (“Myrtle Parade”), shoegaze (“Music Hall of Williamsburg”), jangle pop (“Adaptation Of The Truth About Marie”), no wave (“N.A.S.S.”), post-punk (‘Listen w/ yr eyes’), and glam (“Cultural Consumer IV”).”
