Snail Mail has covered Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Tonight, Tonight’ for new A24 film, I Saw The TV Glow

Snail Mail has released a cover of Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Tonight, Tonight’, recorded for the A24 film I Saw The TV Glow.

The track, which was recorded for the Jane Schoenbrun-directed film released in January, also marks Snail Mail’s (Lindsey Jordan) feature film acting debut.

She explains the serendipitous nature of the cover’s creation: “We had been working on this cover to play on the Valentine tour, before I got the part. It came up early on because I have a tattoo on my right arm of the man in the moon to commemorate the first ever science fiction film, A Trip to the Moon and the Smashing Pumpkins video for ‘Tonight, Tonight’. While reading the script, I discovered the arch nemesis of the Pink Opaque is inspired by the same imagery. I told Jane we were doing this cover in NYC, they came and saw it live, and the rest was herstory.”

Last autumn, Snail Mail released the ‘Valentine (Demos)’ EP, featuring four demo tracks from second album, ‘Valentine’. The album, written and produced by Jordan and co-produced by Brad Cook, was released in 2021.
