Debbie Sings’ ‘Oh My’ is frothy, brilliantly fun, relentlessly addictive and a very welcome slice of high-energy dancefloor-slaying Europop.
Taking cues from the PC Music school of hyperpop glossiness, the eight tracks from the Danish pop producer are shot through with a bratty knowing wink and a feeling of anything-goes carnage. When Debbie sings, “There’s nothing that can stop me, only sunny skies above me” on the euphoric ‘Sunny Skies’, it perfectly defines the vibe of this EP.
The sugar rush feel of tracks like ‘Hotpants’ continues the breathless feeling with the classic rave-pop airhorn employed in an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink rave-pop approach. It’s anything but subtle, and like the best sugary treats, you can’t have it every day, but in the right moment, Debbie Sings provides all the sweetness you need.
