Max Winter’s solo debut, ‘Mourning Routine’, is an atmospheric and absorbing listen. Blending classical composition with experimental pop and textured electronics, it pulls you in from the very first note and doesn’t let go.
‘Sorry’ opens the set with no vocals, just layers of swelling strings and electronic flickers. It feels like an awakening. ‘Buttercup’ follows with a whimsical edge, slightly off-kilter, inviting but strange in a way that keeps you listening.
‘Fresh Air’ deepens the immersion, full of mood and subtle shifts; the detail and tone are magnetic. Then comes ‘The Olympics’, the EP’s boldest moment – a burst of orchestral drama that lands with full force before ‘Hold Me Close’ closes things out on a tactile, emotional note. “Hold me close, don’t let go,” it asks, with strings that tremble around it. It’s intimate and beautifully composed.
Showcasing Max Winter’s range and creating its own world, this is a work of real depth and character. There’s something spell-like about ‘Mourning Routine’; it doesn’t demand your attention, it steals it, and once you’re in, there’s no real desire to leave.
