Arthur Hill’s second EP, ‘Missed Again’, sees the indie-pop upstart refining his sound without losing any of the wit, weirdness or emotional weight that made his debut, ‘In The Middle of Somewhere’, such a quietly brilliant introduction. If that EP felt like flicking through a sketchbook, this one lands like a confident, full-colour splash page.
Opener ‘She’s So Handsome’ is a playful, charming tune that toys with gender lines and lets Hill’s personality take centre stage. ‘Right Now’ follows with pulsing synths and a simple request: don’t overthink it. Just be here. Just dance. It’s infectiously immediate.
Tracks like ‘Appetite’ and ‘Man In The Middle’ strip things back emotionally without skimping on melody, showing off a more intimate, even melancholy side. ‘Back Here Again’ bounces with radio-ready hooks, while closer ‘Miracle’ opens with a sassy “Shake it” and dashes between eccentric and euphoric in classic Hill fashion.
Throughout, there’s a cohesion that wasn’t always there before – a through-line of sharp songwriting and sonic self-awareness. Each track brings something different, but it all sounds unmistakably like Arthur Hill. ‘Missed Again’ is a clear step forward: not a reinvention, but a statement of intent.
It confirms what fans have suspected for a while now: Arthur Hill’s not just one to watch – he’s already arrived.
