Cardinals have released ‘The Burning Of Cork’, the second single from their forthcoming debut album ‘Masquerade’.
The track follows the release of the album’s title track last month, introducing listeners to the Cork-based band’s first LP, which is set to be issued through So Young Records on 13th February 2026.
Frontman Euan Manning explained the inspiration behind ‘The Burning Of Cork’, noting its historical context, “The song takes its name from the act of terror inflicted upon Cork City by the British Army’s Black and Tan forces in December 1920. It’s the record at its heaviest and most menacing.”
Discussing the album, Manning has described the record as a dynamic journey, moving “from the brittle honesty of folk to the theatrical melodrama of goth-rock.” He elaborated on the thematic focus of the album, stating, “Something the record looks at is peeling back the ‘masquerade’ or the facade we all put up. The curtain is pulled and cynicism takes its place – it’s really easy to be cynical and far harder to be hopeful and genuine.”
‘Masquerade’ is planned for release in various physical formats, including an exclusive Galaxy vinyl available through Rough Trade, and cassettes sold exclusively via the band’s store.
Cardinals are also set to join NewDad on their UK tour before embarking on their own European tour.
