Victoria Canal has released an extended version of her debut album ‘Slowly, It Dawns’ via Parlophone Records.
This new edition, available digitally, includes the original album tracks, a new single titled ‘Body Behave’, and live recordings of fan favourites like ‘Pseudo Zen Buddhist: A Screenplay’, ‘Hollow’, ‘Vauxhall’ and ‘15%’.
The newly released single ‘Body Behave’ explores the theme of how the body processes trauma. Canal comments, “I feel like intimacy isn’t as simple as media makes it out to be, especially when there’s underlying history and trauma there. The body shuts down, its behaviours don’t match the desires in the mind, etc. Body Behave is a song that brings levity to that feeling – it’s about exclaiming that someday, my body will allow me to feel the pleasure it deserves when I want to explore with someone safe.”
On the extended album, Canal adds, “With ‘Slowly, It Dawns (Extended)’ I wanted to invite people in on the live versions of songs off the album on tour. We explored all sorts of variations, from solo to band to strings, and I loved getting to explore the songs that way. I also included a little storytime before ‘Pseudo Zen Buddhist’, a fan-favourite I wrote while on tour about my ex-boyfriend’s next girlfriend murdering him (fictional!!!!)”
Next week, Victoria Canal will perform a special show at London’s Bush Hall before heading to Norway to support Bernhoft. Further details and ticket information are available on her website.
