Hatchie has announced her new album ‘Liquorice’ with teaser single ‘Lose It Again’

Hatchie has announced new album ‘Liquorice’, due on 7th November via Secretly Canadian, and shared its first single, ‘Lose It Again’.

Developed in collaboration with producer Melina Duterte (aka Jay Som), the record explores themes of longing and obsession within self-discovery.

Hatchie says, “This album feels like the culmination of everything I’ve wanted to do with this project since I first started it. I focused on the finer details of the trajectory of love found and lost, inspired by my favourite tragic romance films. I’ve never felt more aligned with an album and can’t wait to share the experience with everyone.”

After significant time in Los Angeles, Pilbeam and bandmate/longtime partner Joe Agius stepped back from touring and returned to Australia, where she refocused on close relationships. “Ultimately, the inspiration for the album came from living a very simple life and having time to reconnect with myself and be alone with my thoughts.”

Writing took place in Brisbane across 2022–2023, and later in Melbourne. Pilbeam aimed to work from scratch without fixed reference points, allowing ideas to develop slowly and embracing perceived limitations. “I wanted to see my limitations as strengths that inform my style,” she says.

Recorded at Duterte’s home studio with Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint, Courtney Barnett) on drums, ‘Liquorice’ was mixed by Alex Farrar (Wednesday, MJ Lenderman) and mastered by Greg Obis (Dutch Interior, Slow Pulp, Wishy).
