Florence + The Machine’s new single is reportedly due on 20th August

Florence + The Machine are set to return with a new single next week, following an online teaser that surfaced yesterday (11th August). According to reports, the track is due on 20th August via Republic.

The band shared a brief, horror‑leaning clip showing Florence Welch frantically digging in a windswept, deserted field. It follows a cryptic series of images posted last month, and a refresh of the group’s official website featuring a new logo over a countryside image, prompting comparisons to Kate Bush’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ video.

In July, Welch was pictured in the studio with IDLES guitarist Mark Bowen. Bowen previously remixed ‘Heaven Is Here’ in 2022, with Welch calling IDLES “one of her favourite bands” at the time. She added: “I’ve been wanting to work on something together for a while.” The pair went on to co‑produce Florence + The Machine’s cover of No Doubt’s ‘Just A Girl’ for Yellowjackets the following year.

A separate new image of Welch’s notebook suggested possible themes via the words “witchcraft”, “folk horror”, “magic” and “insanity”. Another page read “You can have it all”, followed by “clarity”, “power”, “purpose”, “vocals”, “space”, “dynamics” and “beauty”.

This year, Florence + The Machine have marked the 10th anniversary of third album ‘How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful’. In 2024, they played a one‑off orchestral show at London’s Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms to celebrate the 15th anniversary of debut ‘Lungs’, captured on live album ‘Symphony Of Lungs’. Earlier this summer, Welch joined The Maccabees during their Park Stage headline set at Glastonbury 2025, performing ‘Love You Better’ and ‘Dog Days Are Over’. She also appeared on stage with Taylor Swift at Wembley Stadium last summer for their collaborative track ‘Florida!!!’, featured on Everything Is Recorded’s 2025 single ‘Never Felt Better’ alongside Sampha, and has written music for a new Broadway adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
