Orla Gartland has released a surprise documentary chronicling the making of her 2024 sophomore album ‘Everybody Needs a Hero’.
The 20-minute film, directed by Emily Marcovecchio and shot at Middle Farm Studios in Devon, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the recording process. The documentary is now available on Gartland’s YouTube channel.
The release follows Gartland’s recent win at the 2025 Ivor Novello Awards, where her track ‘Mine’ received the award for “Best Song Musically and Lyrically”. The track has also received a nomination for Best Independent Track at the 2025 AIM Independent Music Awards.
“My friend Em joined us down at the studio to film some of us recording ‘Everybody Needs a Hero,’ my second full-length record,” Gartland says. “Documenting these moments of the process, both big and small, felt important even just for my own sake – when you come out of focusing on something that hard the whole experience feels like a fever dream, so I loved watching it back. I’m incredibly proud of this record; I pushed myself to make something that represented where I was at that point in my life and with the help of my very talented friends I think I did exactly that.”
Gartland is currently supporting Glass Animals on their summer tour, alongside appearances at various festivals including Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Kilby Block Party, and Hinterland Festival.
