Big Thief have released two new singles, ‘Grandmother’ and ‘Los Angeles’, taken from their forthcoming sixth studio album ‘Double Infinity’.
‘Grandmother’, which features Laraaji on backing vocals and zither, marks the first song written collaboratively by all three members of Big Thief. The track explores themes of generational love and pain, with Adrianne Lenker singing: “It’s alright, everything that happened, happened / So what’s the use of holding? It’s unfolding / We’re all insane / We are made of love / We are also made of pain.”
‘Los Angeles’ examines the evolution of relationships from romance to friendship. “I’ll follow you forever. Even without looking. You call we come together,” Lenker sings in the track, which considers how time reshapes but doesn’t diminish love.
The new album ‘Double Infinity’ was recorded at the Power Station in New York City last winter. The band spent three weeks recording live with minimal overdubs, alongside musicians including Alena Spanger, Caleb Michel, Hannah Cohen, Jon Nellen, Joshua Crumbly, June McDoom, Laraaji, Mikel Patrick Avery, and Mikey Buishas. The album was produced, engineered and mixed by Dom Monks.
