KennyHoopla has announced a new EP titled ‘conditions of an orphan//’, set for release on 19th September via The Orchard.
The Cleveland artist’s fifth EP features production from Paramore’s Zac Farro and Mike Elizondo, known for his work with Turnstile and 50 Cent. The collection follows this spring’s ‘rebirth // renaissance’ EP, which marked KennyHoopla’s first release with his new label.
To coincide with the announcement, KennyHoopla has shared the EP’s lead single ‘orphan//’, which features percussion from Farro. The track explores themes of grief following the passing of his mother three years ago.
“It’s about trying to sift through the process of grief for someone else. The right answer is that there is no right answer. Pain is fluid,” KennyHoopla explains.
Speaking about the EP’s creation, he says: “It’s like I’m back on my feet for the first time and standing up to fight again. A lot of the time, I just feel very alone, like an orphan. I’m just trying to find a home, literally and metaphorically—as a person, and as someone in the music industry. I’m trying to see where I fit in, given the circumstances of life that everyone has to go through.”
The EP marks KennyHoopla’s final release before his debut album. “I’ve spent the last three years of my life reflecting on my career in the industry,” he shares. “I’ve previously restrained myself from talking about deeper issues in my life—trying to compartmentalize my experiences. It’s a constant tug of war between my personal and artistic lives.”
