The Antlers have announced their new album ‘Blight’, set for release on 10th October via Transgressive Records. The band have also shared lead single ‘Carnage’.
“Carnage is a song about a kind of violence we rarely acknowledge — violence not born of cruelty, but of convenience,” says Peter Silberman. “Innocent creatures are swept up in the path of destruction as their world collides with ours, and we barely notice.”
The new track, which marks the band’s first new material in over four years, follows 2021’s ‘Green to Gold’ and was primarily recorded and produced in Silberman’s home studio in upstate New York. “So much of the record was conceived while walking these massive fields,” he explains. “I felt like I was wandering around an abandoned planet.”
The album explores themes of environmental destruction and technological acceleration across nine tracks. “The consequences of accelerating technology and environmental neglect feel imminent; that sense of urgency made me want to speak more candidly,” Silberman notes. “The present-day specifics are so unsettling, and tomorrow’s possibilities are so surreal… there’s no need to mince words.”
