Tropics has shared hypnotic new single ‘Cherry’ ahead of his ‘Reality Fever’ album

Tropics has shared new single ‘Cherry’ ahead of his forthcoming album ‘Reality Fever’, due out on 21st July via Modern Entity.

The new track, which marks the fourth release from the upcoming album, represents a shift in direction, offering an instrumental interlude that blends downtempo electronica with ambient textures and retro-futuristic synths.

Chris Ward, the British-born, Los Angeles-based musician behind Tropics, explains the track’s position within the album: “This track was aimed to be a chugging yet hypnotic and blissed-out palette cleanser halfway through the forthcoming album. It presents a moment where the tone changes from the initial driving, heavy singles… we flip to the B-side for the more ambient and electronica-leaning chapter. This instrumental beat is made with intent to capture all the previous Tropics nostalgic, chillwave moments and bring them all together in a brand new dynamic sound.”

The track follows June’s single ‘Ionian Mirage’, with the forthcoming album ‘Reality Fever’ comprising ten tracks in total. The record, entirely self-written, produced, and recorded by Ward in his LA studio, explores themes of emotional extremes through textural nuance and genre fusion.

“Heavy drums and rhythmic strumming on the bass, against all the soundscapes that aim to space you out and send you somewhere else,” Ward adds. “I guess it’s a contrast of being chilled / spaced-out but this throbbing underlying angst.”
