Jay Som has announced her first album in six years, featuring Hayley Williams and Jim Adkins

Jay Som has announced her first new album in six years, ‘Belong’, set for release on 10th October via Lucky Number.

The project of Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Melina Duterte marks a departure from previous releases, featuring collaborations with guest vocalists including Hayley Williams of Paramore and Jim Adkins of Jimmy Eat World. The 11-track album was written, composed, performed, produced, engineered and mixed by Duterte, with contributions from Joao Gonzalez, Mal Hauser, and Steph Marziano.

‘Belong’ follows 2019’s ‘Anak Ko’, with Duterte spending the intervening years focusing on production work, including credits on boygenius’ ‘the record’, Lucy Dacus’ ‘Forever Is A Feeling’, and touring as part of boygenius’ live band.

Speaking about new single ‘Float’, which features Jim Adkins, Duterte says, “This song is about desperately trying to hold on to past versions of yourself for self-preservation. The fear of the unknown is so overwhelming that sometimes the best solution is to sit with it instead of fighting or running from it.”

Adkins adds, “Melina is an absolute professional in all aspects of music creation. I am honoured she had space in her vision for me to contribute. And it was a lot of fun to work on. Great song!”
